Quite easily the best film I’ve watched this year. It’s been a while since I’ve watched something like this that is so beautifully shot and provocative. It’s a difficult film that compels multiple readings, whether or not these layers of meanings are successful is another story. It’s a convenient reading but I loved how the film starts with “a child is dead” and comes grief, pain and despair. Charlotte Grainsbourg as von Trier’s usual tormented female protagonist is stunning as with her predecessors. Redefines the horror genre.</p>
